Do I Have to Wear My Hearing Aids All of the Time?
Good morning, it’s Friday! This is Dr. Mandy and I’m getting on here to say ‘Happy Friday!’ And I’ve got my coffee, I love my coffee on Fridays when I treat myself. But what I want to do is just bring up a question that gets asked all the time when we’re consulting with hearing aids. One of the biggest questions is, “Do I have to wear my hearing aids all the time?” and my answer is absolutely!
When you get up in the morning and you wear your hearing aids, you put them in right away, and then you wear them all day until you go to bed, or when you shower. The reason being is even if you’re home alone and you’re wearing your hearing aids, it’s important to know what’s going on around you and it’s important for your brain to remember all the sounds it hasn’t heard.
So if you go back to when you had normal hearing, could you just cut off your brain? Not really, because when you had normal hearing you were hearing everything around you. It’s the same concept when you’re wearing hearing aids. You want to wear them all the time even if there isn’t noises around you for your own safety and for your brain to continuously be stimulated. That way you’re going to get used to your hearing aids that much faster.
