ReSound Sensia is the newest premium hearing aid family from GN Hearing, designed to solve a common frustration with AI-powered hearing aids: emphasizing the wrong voice, or even treating background music as the sound you want to hear. Its new automatic sound processing system relies on a natural cue, the direction you are facing, to lift the conversation you are following rather than the loudest voice in the room. Sensia adds this processing while keeping the very small size and all-day battery life of its predecessor, ReSound Vivia.
Key Features of ReSound Sensia
Intelligent All-Around Processing
Sensia's automatic system, called Intelligent All-Around, combines three technologies that work together in real time. AcoustIQ classifies your sound environment and decides which features to engage, while a binaural four-microphone beamformer gives preference to speech in the direction you are facing. DNN denoising then reduces competing speech and other distractions around the person you want to hear, while lower-frequency sound outside the forward beam is preserved so you keep a natural sense of where sounds are coming from.
Focused on the Person in Front of You
In a GN internal study of 20 hearing aid users listening to equally loud talkers from the front and side, Sensia made the frontal talker most audible for 80 percent of participants, while a comparison DNN hearing aid more often favored the talker to the side.
Researchers at Hörzentrum Oldenburg tested a similar scenario and found that Sensia more consistently favored the person in front when talkers were equally loud. These studies measured which talker was most audible rather than how many additional words were understood, so we view them as promising evidence to consider alongside your own individual performance.
The Right Noise Reduction for Every Situation
Sensia automatically switches between DNN denoising for speech-heavy environments and ReSound's established Noise Tracker II system for steady nonspeech noise like fans or vacuum cleaners, avoiding the unwanted artifacts a speech-trained network can create when there is no speech to preserve.
Small Size with All-Day Battery Life
Despite adding automatic DNN processing, the rechargeable Sensia microRIE keeps essentially the same discreet size and battery performance as Vivia. GN rates the rechargeable microRIE and ITC/ITE models for at least 24 hours of use, with up to roughly 30 hours depending on how you use them. A smaller, updated premium portable charger is also available for charging on the go.
Auracast That Works Today
Sensia supports Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast broadcast audio that is fully functional at launch rather than dependent on a future firmware update, so you can select broadcasts in theaters, airports, and places of worship directly through the ReSound Smart 3D app.
Styles, Technology Levels, and Bimodal Options
Sensia is available in rechargeable microRIE, size 312 and 13 RIE, nonwireless CIC, wireless ITC, and rechargeable ITC/ITE styles, with the full Intelligent All-Around system offered at technology level 9 in the microRIE. The microRIE is also available in CROS models for single-sided deafness and in ReSound Sensia Bimodal models designed to work with Cochlear Nucleus sound processors.
